WORK EXPERIENCE TESTIMONIAL: ALICIA GARBETT

Alicia Garbett, who is studying Building Surveying at The University of the West of England, joined us in the summer on a work placement. Here is her description of her experience with us:

“I was on placement at Murray Birrell for two weeks where I gained a valuable experience with the company visiting various project sites with a Director, Contract Administrator and the Clerk of Works.

I am currently studying Building Surveying and this experience has enabled me to put my studies into practice.

During my time on placement, I assisted in serving party wall notices, undertaking a schedule of works and meeting with the team on various projects to name a few.

Unlike previous placements, Murray Birrell treated me like I was a member of the team, sharing ideas with what I can take back to university and getting me involved in the work that surrounds the day-to-day running of the office.

All of the team provided me with helpful advice, including preparation for the APC (Assessment of Professional Competence) that I will undertake, as well as general advice for when I graduate.

I go back to university with a good understanding of what the role of a surveyor entails and I would like to thank the team at Murray Birrell for their guidance and for looking after me.”
