The effects of climate change on buildings are becoming apparent, and certain elements of building standards are becoming out-dated. A February 2022 report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change includes: “The rise in weather and climate extremes has led to some irreversible impacts as natural and human systems are pushed beyond their ability to adapt.” We believe this can be applied to the systems used for structural design and construction methods in the built environment.
